13A Season Report
The Mighty 13A’s – Ayden, Carter, Darcy, Kai, Ethan B, Ethan F, Micah, Mitch F,
Mitch J, Ned, Neil, Ollie, Oscar, Ryder and Zack.
Firstly, a very special thanks to Pete, Kez and Jason for all the help and support
throughout the season. It was very much appreciated.
It’s easy to look back on this past season and say it was one that didn’t producex
many great wins and seen as not a ‘successful’ season. My answer to that is
rubbish. A successful season does not have to be one that is only described as one
where winning is the only, or most important thing. Sure, winning is great but it’s not
everything. I have no doubt if any one of the boys in this team wants to make it to
SPL or even representative football, I’m sure they could if they really wanted it.
For a Coach, a successful season can also be one where each player turns up to
training and game days simply because they enjoy playing the best game in the
world and just want to be with their mates. I often asked the boys throughout the
season, ‘even though we’re not getting the wins, do you still enjoy coming to training
and playing on Saturday’. The answer was always a resounding ‘Yes’. Enough said!
Each player has shown improvement throughout the season. The last 4-5 rounds
proved that and just showed the potential this team has to finish higher up the ladder.
Without doubt there is a lot of talent in this team, but playing in A Grade can be a
tough gig and I think each of the boys now realise that. You must work hard, and you
must push hard, then the results will come. It’s all about attitude, effort and perseverance.
Finally, and I mean it when I say it, but this is an awesome bunch of young players. I
hope they have learnt something that they can take on to next season.
The boys will say that I was always repeating myself at training, so let me finish with
this final word to the each of them (I know they’ll understand) – ‘where is the game is
played’ and ‘train as hard as you play’.
