16C Season Report
What a fantastic year the boys had in the 2025 season!
While there was quite a lot of change in the roster from last year, the boys all got along with each other well, and worked hard to figure out the new dynamics of the team and how they wanted to play.
Everyone put a lot of effort into training each week, and they were a joy to coach. They are all growing up to be a group of wonderful young men, who’s sportsmanship and teamwork will undoubtedly go a long way to giving them valuable skills in life to come.
They continued to improve as the year went on, and were able to finish very strong, beating every team in the division by the end except our old rivals Bosco, and finished the season in 3rd place. It was unfortunate to be eliminated in the first game in the finals 3-2 to the eventual GF winners Bangor, but they should all be proud of themselves for how they never gave up and always put the team first.
To the supporting parents, siblings, grandparents, girlfriends and friends, a very big thank you for all the support you have shown to the boys throughout the season. I know the boys have all appreciated your continued encouragement, and it truly wouldn’t be the same without you.
This year the players voted for Brandon Dumbrell to receive the Players Player Award. He was our leading goal-scorer again for the team, is a great inspiration for all the other boys, and one of the most talented players to ever wear the Eagles jersey.
This year the Coaches Award goes to Wesley Green. After recovering the year before from a back injury, Wes showed ultimate versatility and played all over the midfield and defence, doing a fantastic job in whatever role was asked of him. He is a quiet achiever, who never draws attention to himself, but instinctively reads the game so well and always steps up in the big moments. Well done Wes.
Other players of note were our inspirational Captain James Yock who had another great year as our other striker and constant source of encouragement and support for myself and the team, our fearless Vice-Captain Zac Griffiths who stepped up in a big way in a new role for him as a defensive centre midfielder, our best and fairest Keiran Brain who was a stalwart as sweeper and a true joy to coach, our minister of defence Will Follett who had another great year as one of our goalkeepers, and the puppet-master Luke Flanagan who helped control the game through the middle of the field.
If I could, I’d give all the boys awards for their efforts throughout the year. They are all special, and I can’t wait to see how they play next year.
Coach: Russell Griffiths
Manager: Amanda Yock
