21X Season Report
The team consisted of Adam, Aiden, Alec, Andrew, Bailey, Dom, Joel, Josh, Keelan, Ky, Matt, Niamo, Pat, Riley, Yakob and Zach. All different names, easy to remember names, no weird names – pretty simple stuff you might say. As a new Coach to this team it took me a couple of games to work out who was who. Pretty normal you might say. In fact, anyone would say that.
We started ‘Messenger’ at the beginning of the season to help organise the team with any updates, late field changes, players in or out through injury etc etc. It just made life easy. But wait, you forget these are 21’s. So just for fun, they decide to change their names on Messenger to nicknames. Not any old nicknames, but one’s I had never ever heard them refer to each other as. For example – The Bear, Crutches, Cool Calm Collected, Karen, Headbanger, Victor Bravo. The list goes on and on. I literally had no idea who was turning up each week on game day. It was fun though!
It may not have been the season we wanted, or had expected, but at each and every training session and on every game day, these guys gave it their absolute ALL – 110% and more. The commitment from all of you was awesome. You listened to all my training drills, whether you understood it or not. Shame this season was so short, as I do believe we would have upset a few teams.
As the season went on, we all knew we were in a tough comp. However, these guys didn’t care, not for one moment. Every game, every one of them walked off the pitch having enjoyed playing their part. There were times in the 2nd half of the season that we played some football that truly showed we deserved to be in this comp. Someone actually said after a game words similar to, ‘WE deserve to be here’. Hearing that gave me goose bumps.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to coach you guys. It was a challenge for me which I can honestly say I enjoyed so much. Thankyou (again) Kev. Has always looked after the stuff that I do not care or want to know about. And thankyou to all our supporters who rocked up each week. It really was great to see (and hear) you.
Ps. Apologies, as team photo below does not show everyone in this team. Photo was taken just prior to kick-off at our last game of the season.
Pps. Hope to see you all at paintball. You can run and run, but you can never hide.
Glenn (Coach)
