9G/1 Season Report
If the mark of a successful season is how much a team improves, then our boys had a fantastic year with the difference in their skills and teamwork immense from the first game to our final gala night.
It was so fantastic to see the boys understand the importance of playing as a team, and as coaches we got so much satisfaction out of them scoring goals with multiple passes and celebrating together, as well as working together to stop the opposition.
At this age, results don’t really matter. All we wanted was for the boys to try their best and have as much fun as possible. After starting the year with some tough games in a higher division, we certainly found our feet in the new grade and had a blast developing as a team as the season went on with some wins and a few draws.
Thank you to all the parents who made it so easy throughout the year and to everyone involved on the Eagles committee. We know how much work you do to allow our kids to play soccer each week.
Flynn – not sure there’s a kid who tries as hard as Flynn, and no matter the circumstances, always gave his all for the team. Scored a heap of goals throughout the year and the boys loved playing with him.
Jayden – had a fantastic year and is so versatile he could score goals, play in midfield, stop opposition attacks and was stellar during a couple of games in goal
Lachlan – used those long legs of his to our benefit in the midfield, blocking many opposition advances. Always played with a smile on his face and did a great job as goalie throughout the year.
Layken – having his first try at soccer and made an immediate impact as one of our attackers, who could score goals and really improved throughout the year in setting up his teammates.
Lennox – it’s tiring just watching him run all over the park! Our everywhere man who never stopped and made massive contributions in both attack and defence, while always encouraging his teammates.
Lincoln – the most selfless player on the team who, without prompting, volunteered to play in defence each week. We lost count of how many opposition attacks he stopped and it was a pleasure to have him on the team.
Logan – the type of player every team needs and by the end of the year was passing brilliantly. Scored a goal from inside our own half one week and loved volunteering to play in goal, doing an awesome job all season.
Mateo – has to be our most improved player this year, growing with confidence every week and almost scoring the goal of the season with a long-range shot which rattled the crossbar.
Riley – loved playing his first year at soccer and never once worried about taking on bigger opponents. We really missed him throughout the middle part of the year when he was on an overseas holiday and will only get better next year.
Tommy – played his first year with his schoolmates at the Eagles and had a brilliant season, scoring a number of goals and showing he could do it at the other end too with heaps of good games in defence.
