SWE Season Report
It was a confusing start to the season, where we were over 30’s, then SW then back to over 30’s and eventually got put in SW.
We lost a lot of our younger players through the associations stuff up and had to get on the recruitment drive, eventually securing the services of some very talented players in “Jackie and Lovey “, and a girl who had never played before “Claire” ( who ended up being a very talented player )
The season was testing at times, through injuries, sickness, more injuries etc etc. This bunch of girls pulled together with a goal of making it to the finals series and they did it.
We went in with the mindset of “experience beats youth” and this was the case for 99% of the season, only to fall short in the final.
I want to thank a few people firstly
Bec, our manager. She holds everything together, organises everything, ensures we are there at ground control and manages all the social activities
My wife Lisa, for allowing me to coach and spend time with 16 other woman for half the year.
Liz, for organising ALL the gifts for me. I loved them all team, thanks!!
To my assistant coaches and helpers Johnny and Scotty, for being the good cop, when i’m the bad cop, and running the team when I couldn’t be there.
To all the lovely families, whether it be the great kids you all have, your husbands/partners who keep me sane, your parents who are always willing to give me advise or your friends who have come to cheer us on . THANKYOU! I love chatting with you all during before and after games.
To our official number 1 supporter “Ben”, you turn up for every game, rain hail or shine and always give me a laugh when i’m stressed out. Thanks mate, the team loves you!
Lastly, to our awesome players, you guys make the season and the team!!
Your SWE for 2023
Bec – Allrounder, who will give it her all, till she can’t give no more. She was great on the field and as our reserve keeper, winning us some vital games through her skills.
Naomi – our goal kick specialist, our original sweeper and in the end, our voice from the sideline through to an horrific injury. Can’t wait to have you back!
Liz – commando role guru who also suffered massive injuries, but managed to get back on the field through pure determination, leading us in our Final
Mel – Left or Right back, would never let me down, and took it to any that tried to beat her, ensuring she always came out on top
Trudi – another fullback who was brutal in defence, and gave 110% every time she played. Girls could be 20 years younger, but our Trudi would shut them down!!
Lovey – Our recruited goalie. Her style wasn’t the norm but gee it worked well. Pulled off critical saves in critical games. That’s what great keepers do!
Jackie – Iron Woman, and the third member of the “Titties”. Setup some great goals, scored a couple and never gave up. Always happy to give “feedback” to me also
Claire – Wow, from a girl that had never played before, to one of the stars of the team. Her attack was potent (scoring some crackers)and her defence ………..well…………….i wouldn’t like to challenge a 50/50 ball with her
Yvette – I would have 18 Yvettes in my team. Loved training, loved playing, loved the team and most of all, loved winning. Her determination in the middle of the park and in defence was second to none
Amy – I love having her in the team. She is tough as nails, skilful as Messi and owned the centre of the pitch, week in week out. Also captained us to our Semi Final win
Lozzy – one of our starting strikers who scored some very memorable goals , and formed a great partnership with her other “Titties”. If she wasn’t scoring, she was setting them up
Taryn – from fullback to being thrown into sweeper full time. Pressure was like water off a ducks back. More passion than anyone in the team and hated losing as much as me. Controlled the backline and a real reason we made it as far as we did
Tiff – Stepped up this year, moving from the backline into mids, often playing centre and wing. Her composure on the ball and ability to thread passes through to teammates was great to watch
Llania – If I needed 90 minutes, she would give it, if I needed a goal she would get it, it if needed someone covered, she would lock them down. A true centre mid who wants the ball at her feet
Lisa – every week she would do something to dazzle the crowd. Our Golden Boot, who scored goals from everywhere, and somehow got goals that really shouldn’t have been scored. Will give 110% and more every game, and when you hear “Lisa’s Ball”, look out …..you are about to see something special
Kylie – If games were won on effort , this girl would win all the time. She just loves the game and loves being out there, whether its 5 degrees or 40 degrees. Her positivity and her “Team” mentality brings smiles to everyone that plays with her. A true team player
Jules – Playing through injury, pain and everything else life can throw at her. A bigger heart than Phar lap , and abut the same ability to win. When Jules played, the team was a better team. She is looked up to by all that play with her
Well done ladies, on a great season!!
Coach Dan
