SWF Season Report
This year has been a rollercoaster of changes.
We started the year with registering for the women’s over 30’s and ended up back in Senior Women’s. Thankfully 6 of the teams were from the over 30’s comp from last year, making this an easier transition.
It was another year for new additions to the team and big welcome to Lisa, Cassy, Lauren, Melissah, Alisha, Caitlyn and Ashlee. It is amazing how well everyone plays so well together and we are so glad you all are part of the team!!
We had a great time at the pink ribbon gala day and our trial match against Heathcote. Obviously our well intentioned warm up matches were a little early for the actual season due to Covid delays.
We started the season with a grand final rematch against Gymea 2 and unfortunately lost 3-2 but played so well and gave them a scare.
Came in strong again for our next match beating Barden Ridge 5-1, we played this team a few years back and they knocked us out of the finals. We have certainly improved over the years!!
Round 4 brought one of the most insane wet weather games we have ever played and despite the torrential rain, having no subs and playing the top team we never gave up.
Backline had the welcome addition of Alisha, Melissah and Caitlyn and each brought their own touch to their positions. Alisha brought a great boot to clear out the ball feeding the ball back to the forwards, Mel’s sticking with the players, jockeying and getting the ball off the opposition. Caitlyn was always there to clear anything that came through the gaps and put her body on the line every corner. Special thanks for all the goal kicks Caitlyn took too!!
Frontline and Mids had the addition of Lisa, Cassy, Lauren and Ashlee. Lisa joined Erin and they made a great team up front, both running everywhere and chasing that ball till the death. Lauren was so determined to score and put everything in and was great to see the hat-rick in the Loftus Match. Cassy and Ashlee brought the ball up the sidelines and saw some great crosses, Ashlee took some great corners too.
Overall we had a great season and won 7 matches, had 1 draw (bloody Gymea!!) and 4 losses, scoring a massive 33 goals. We only lost to 3 teams and not by much and if it had been a normal season would have had a good crack at semi-finals. Overall 4th place was a great result.
Thanks again to Dan for his guidance and time coaching us throughout the season and really appreciate the yelling from the sidelines.
Looking forward to another great year 2021
Thanks so much!!
Bec
