W16A Season Report
It’s been a long year with the weather disruptions and the early preseason for our girls, it’s a shame that it finished 1 week earlier than we wanted. In saying that to finish the season with a draw in the prelim final is still a great effort.
At the start of the year we had a goal of making the top 4 and playing semi-final football for the first time. We achieved this with flying colours. Not only did we make the finals but we proved to ourselves that on any given day we were good enough to match it with the best teams.
As a coach all you can ask for is for your players to do their best and support your team mates as best you can. Mick and I are so privileged to have a group of girls that may not be the best friends off the park but once they step foot over the white line will do anything for each other. These girls are a great bunch of girls. I love coaching them as they are attentive and try their best. I can’t ask for anymore.
I would like to thank a few of the girls that joined us this year from other teams – Caity, Tilly and Lai. I hope you enjoyed playing with us and will be here again next year.
Eve – You once again showed why you are the leader of this team. Strong player on the field but an even better captain. Your encouragement for the girls on the field is fantastic.
Sammy – Once again you showed the competition why you are the best sweeper out there. Your vision and placement on the field is second to none.
Ava – We gave you a few different positions through the year and you excelled at all of them. You are a major asset to our backline. Another great year
Caity – Coming into our team this year from a lower grade would have been daunting, but you showed that if you put your mind to it you can play the top grade. Well done.
Tyla – During the year you played many great games in defence. But a great goal in the semi was the highlight.
Dakota – You are a great asset for our team. Either a back or mid fielder you are improving week to week. One of our most improved players.
Stef – The player in our team that never gives an inch. You are the rock in the defensive half that teams struggle to get through. Really love your toughness.
Lai – First year with us and you didn’t let yourself or our team down. You were exceptional in our midfield. From the first train session I knew your team were going to be better with you here.
Josi – Our right midfielder, Best in the comp in that position. You raise our team when needed. Player’s player award as well. Well done great year.
Chelsea – Started as our keeper and went well there. It’s a shame an injury cut short your keeping, but on the field you always gave 100%.
Am – You are such an asset for our team. Mainly a mid-fielder with exceptional skills but also up front as well. You have made our team even better since you arrived.
Tilly – Like Caity you joined us from a lower grade this year. But who would have known. You played well above my expectations and became one of the best players in our competition. Never gave up. Well done
Bill – Always smiling and a breath of fresh air for our team. For me your selfless act of putting your hand up for goal keeper in the finals shows the person you are, a team player.
Em – Another good year up front. Scored some good goals. When you put your mind to it you were a great asset.
Bree – This year for me was your breakout year. My most improved player. Your skill and vision has improved out of site. I think next year you are going to be even better.
Jada – Skilful, tough and full off running. Our coach’s award as well. You are the player that showed our girls the toughness required for this grade. Great goals this year as well.
Bring on W18’s. I know if we stick together we will exceed. We are creating something special here, and I know that we will be a major threat in A-grade for years to come.
I hope to see all the girls again next year, but if not I hope the experience you had with us was enjoyable.
Thanks for a great year,
Dave and Mick
