W21C Season Report
What an enjoyable season with a great bunch of girls. Finishing the season in the middle of our grade saw some interesting games, but more impressive this year was their never give up attitude each week. They really did play to have fun and the final score appeared meaningless. We had new players join the team this year so we thought this should make games easier knowing we had reserves however we still seemed to struggle with players each week. In saying that the girls played some of their best games with little or no reserves.
We did enjoy watching the girls come together each week and play some great, but sometimes frustrating football. We laughed at times but did love the interesting words of encouragement to each other on the field each week. They all showed resilience, the ability to stick together and back each other up with their determination each week.
A few words about the star players that make up this great team.
Ash – Had a tough start to the year with her asthma, but each week she pushed through. She was always there to clean up in the back line and saved many goals. Even after a ball to the head she still just wanted to keep going and not let the team down.
Bella – Our mighty defence player, with a sheer determination to get to that ball no matter who stood in her way. Bella was unstoppable and full of energy, she was awesome in reading the play and shutting down players, saving many goals from being scored against us.
Jaz – After a late start to the season being stuck overseas and then spending a further two weeks in quarantine, she came back as feisty as ever. Her energetic attitude and skills each week opened many opportunities in our attacking play. She can always be trusted to fight for that ball.
Lauren – A new player who without doubt, brought strength to the team. Her energy each week was flawless, she never stopped running and played at full speed all game. She could play anywhere on the field and she would just excel. Hope to see you back next year.
Lillian – New to the team this year, she brought a bit of fun and laughter to the team. She was another player in our back line chasing and shutting down players. She was always part of a little sledging on the field, ensuring her teammates were looked after and never left broken.
Liz – She would get the most improved player this season. She was always running up and down the wing, putting forward some great passes to our forward line, even managed to score some vital goals herself Well done Liz you were exciting to watch each week.
Mel – “Run Mel Run…..” Mel has so much ability and probably the biggest kick in the team. Her corners never let the team down, always placing the ball exactly where it was needed. She was always solid in the middle of the field but also did a great job when placed in the back line.
Mia – A player that could talk underwater, who underestimated her ability to run. She could chase down a ball and continue talking about what just happened. A versatile player that usually played on the wing but could play in defence or goals when asked and would not let us down.
Sam – Always strong out on the wing she has a natural ability to run fast, she opened many opportunities in our attacking play. A hamstring injury saw her finish the season way too early, it was such a shame as her speedy ability and skills were surely missed.
Sarah – Played up front scoring some great goals as well as playing in the middle, always fighting for possession of the ball. She had great vision and created opportunities for her team. She also stepped up and played keeper saving some amazing goals.
Shelly – She is still known as the human Velcro. She saved so many spectacular goals with her flexibility and keen eye for the ball but was also solid out on the field. Her never give up attitude enabled her to create opportunities for the team.
Tahlia – Another player to suffer a concussion this year. How she was still standing after that hit at Bonnet Bay still amazes us. She wanted to continue playing, this defines who Tahlia is. She is dedicated and loves to play, always bringing a smile and was an integral part of our amazing back line.
Teagan – Another new player this year, starting the season as a very quiet player but she quickly proved herself, bringing a never give up attitude that brought new opportunities to the team. She became a very reliable attacking player that was a pleasure to have around.
Teleah – It was pleasing to have her return to the team this year. She strengthened our attacking play and could be relied upon to get to the ball and make a difference. Her fight for the ball provided many opportunities resulting in the team goals total.
A special mention to Liz’s mum. Kerry without fail supplied the girls half time refueling each game. She cut up many oranges, bought strawberries and lollies so the girls had the energy to return to the field for the second half. Thank you, Kerry it really was appreciated. The team would not be complete without our statistics and time keeping so thanks once again to Colin, we do really miss you when you cannot come to a game.
We enjoyed watching you girls play each week and hope you all return next season to do it all again.
Nicole & Sharon
