W8E Season Report
What a season! From the very first game to the final whistle, the girls gave it their all -and we couldn’t be prouder of their development, teamwork, determination, and outstanding sports-womanship.
From the early nerves of wondering if we’d have enough players, to the arrival of the fabulous Martin girls bringing fresh energy and fitting in as if they’d been here all along. The team kicked off with an impressive win in their opening match, and from that moment on, they showcased incredible cohesion on the field. With strong defence (special shout-out to our fearless goalkeepers for some spectacular saves!), impressive attacking plays, and beautiful passing combinations, it was clear this group was something special. There were standout moments throughout the season -like that unforgettable penalty goal that had the crowd buzzing!
As the season progressed, the girls continued to grow in skill and confidence. Their ball control, game awareness, and ability to read the play improved week by week. They learned to share defensive responsibilities, position themselves smartly, intercept throw-ins, and capitalise on every opportunity to push the ball forward. Whether it was blocking a shot or turning defence into attack with flair, the effort and improvement was inspiring to watch.
We were incredibly fortunate to have two wonderful coaches, Lyndall and Chris, leading the way. Their energy and commitment ensured that training sessions were not only productive but also full of fun. Under their guidance, the players developed in all areas -mastering set pieces, communicating better on the pitch, and growing as confident, well-rounded players. Their positive influence was felt by every single member of the team.
We couldn’t be a team without our fabulous manager Matt -and his ever-reliable sidekick Emma! They kept everything running smoothly: match schedules, ground control, and ensuring match reports were submitted (with no fines!). We couldn’t have done it without them.
Player shout-out
Ava – The Space Finder & Dancing Queen
Ava is the quiet assassin in front of goal -always moving, always finding space, and always looking for the perfect pass. With a brilliant first touch and sharp awareness, she pushed the team forward with every play. Her twinkle toes on the pitch and dancing queen energy off it made her a standout. Don’t be fooled by her calm approach -Ava shows up when the team needs her most.
Evie – The Netball Defender & Tough-as-Nails Teammate
Evie joined the team as a new face and quickly became a favourite with her skill, attitude, and endless committment. Deadly at throw-ins, she created key goal-scoring opportunities and backed it up with strong defensive play. Always ready to get back up after a knock, she showed true grit and team spirit. A quiet achiever, but absolutely solid in every role.
Isla – The Sassy Midfield Defender
Isla brought heart, humour, and hustle every game. With a solid boot, cheeky grin, and fearless attitude, she gave opposition players a hard time in midfield and defence. Though she didn’t hit the scoresheet, she was always first to celebrate her teammates’ successes. Her sass kept everyone on their toes -and her determination made her a key part of the team.
Lucy – The Trusted Keeper & Defensive Maestro
Lucy is the rock at the back -cool, confident, and clutch. Whether between the posts or pushing forward with her rocket of a kick, Lucy delivered every time. Her defensive skills, calm decision-making, and ability to read the game were vital. And to top off a great season, she scored her very first goal on Gala Day -what a moment!
Matilda – The Goal Scorer & Attacking Spark
Matilda lit up the pitch with her personality and play. She grew so much during the season, learning to find space and pick the right pass while still charging forward every chance she got. With a big boot and even bigger energy, she scored some crucial goals -and proved she’d do anything for a reward (including a cherry picker ride!). A true party starter and game-changer.
Molly – The Precision Finisher & Reluctant Sub
Molly was our goal-scoring machine -always running hard, always ready to pounce. With her brilliant positioning and killer instinct in front of goal, she created and converted countless chances. Her determination and energy lifted the whole team. She never wanted to come off the field (sorry, Coach Dad!) -and we loved her competitive fire.
Olivia – The Setup Queen & Smiling Speedster
Olivia was a powerhouse in both defence and attack. Fast, skilful, and fiercely committed, she tore down the wing with a smile, often outpacing everyone in sight. Whether assisting a teammate or going for goal herself, Olivia brought smart decision-making and 100% effort. A reliable team player with game-changing speed.
Pixie – The Fearless Speedster & Goalie Superstar
Pixie may be small, but she plays with a giant heart. Her speed left defenders behind, and her bravery in goal was next-level. She never backed down from a challenge, tackling hard, running her heart out, and stepping up whenever needed. Pixie gave everything for the team -and we were better for it.
Skyla – The Sassy Speed Demon & Versatile Weapon
Skyla hit the ground running -literally. Whether sprinting down the line, clearing in defence, or charging on goal, she did it with confidence and style. A new addition this season, she fit in instantly, always willing to do what the team needed. Her sass and stamina made her unstoppable and so fun to watch.
Stella – The Half-Season Hero
Stella was only with us for part of the season, but she made every minute count. A tough tackler and confident shooter, she gave her all every game and was sorely missed when away. Her versatility and grit made her a valued teammate -and her absence was truly felt at games.
Tahnee – The Determined Go-Getter with a Giant Heart
Tahnee plays with one speed: all in. No matter the position, she gave 100% and never shied away from a challenge. Her growth as a player and teammate this season was amazing to watch. With the heart of a lion and effort that never dipped, she inspired the whole team every time she stepped on the pitch.
A huge thank you to all the parents, families, and supporters who cheered from the sidelines, supplied lollies and oranges, volunteered when needed, and didn’t shy away from a parents (and grandparents) versus kids game in training!
This season wasn’t just about building skills -it was about growing as a team. Every player brought something unique, whether it was a perfectly timed pass, a tough tackle, a crucial goal, or simply encouraging a teammate. The girls learned a lot, supported each other, and built friendships that went beyond the field.
By the end of the season, W08E had become a close-knit group. From hard-fought wins to big saves, celebration dances to sideline cartwheels, they played with energy, spirit, and a real sense of joy.
We’re excited to see where next season takes them.
