W10C-1 Season Report

Engadine Eagles W10C-1

What an enjoyable season it has been with a wonderful group of girls who gave their all for each other and left nothing on the pitch week after week.

These player made the step up from playing W09s six-a-side on the smallest fields to the much larger nine-a-side format seamlessly. From the very first training session back in March, coaches Colin and Craig could see real potential in every player, many of whom had never played together before.

The team didn’t have long to learn how to play with more teammates on the field and adjust to the extra space afforded by the bigger playing area, but they got to grips with it in no time.

Our first match saw the team secure an emphatic away victory against the Cronulla Seagulls, giving the coaching team a better idea of which players would be suited to each position. A couple more training sessions brought a couple more victories, and the team was really beginning to take shape. Each player grew into her role and started to understand not only her own position, but how that role fitted into the team as a whole.

Training sessions were always very well attended and highly productive. It was evident on game day that the girls were putting into practice what they had worked on at training. The attitude of every player was exceptional. The team bonded early in the season, and you could see just how much it meant to everyone each time they scored a goal or won a game.

For the coaches, perhaps the toughest part of the season was choosing the “Player of the Game” each week, as the team consistently worked together as one.

The season seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye — probably a sign that everyone was having a lot of fun! The season’s record makes for great reading, with just one defeat, three draws and an incredible 14 victories.

More importantly, the players turned up every week and gave 100% for the team. Never questioning their starting position — be it in goals or at centre forward — they always stepped onto the field ready to contribute and left it with smiles aplenty.

It was an absolute pleasure for the coaches to work with this group of players, and I’m sure it was equally enjoyable for the loyal band of supporters cheering them on from the sidelines.

The team would like to thank all the parents and carers who made sure the players turned up to training and matches on time and in the right frame of mind. Your support throughout the season was invaluable.

A huge thank you also goes to our Team Manager, Erin, for keeping everyone up to date with fixtures and logistics, and for capturing so many special memories with her photography each week.

We are incredibly proud of our W10C-1 girls and everything they achieved this season.

Thank you, girls, for a very special season! 🦅⚽💙
